About Us
After obtaining a technical diploma in forest engineering, I completed a bachelor’s degree in forestry in northern british columbia. I subsequently earned my professional forester designation and began my career as a forest engineer on vancouver island. During my time in the forestry industry, I developed a strong appreciation for woodworking, which led me to establish a small side business specializing in cabinetry and custom designed furniture, allowing me to refine my craftsmanship.
Throughout my career, I lived in several small communities across the province, often in homes requiring extensive repairs and upgrades. With a strong commitment to quality and attention to detail, I chose to develop the skills necessary to complete this work to my own standards. Over time, I gained hands on experience in various aspects of home renovation, including tiling, bathroom and kitchen remodeling, and the construction of decks and stair systems. My background in fine woodworking has been instrumental in delivering precise and high quality results in these areas.
In 2008, I relocated to maple ridge to establish roots and start a family. I continued my role with the bc forest service as a forest engineering specialist until 2011, when I made the decision to pursue self employment and founded j. Murphy’s handyman service. As the business expanded, it became clear that the original name no longer reflected the scope of services offered. In 2013, following consultation with clients, family, and colleagues, the company was rebranded as j. Murphy’s contracting.
Today, the company specializes in bathroom, kitchen, and basement suite construction and renovations. While our primary focus is on larger scale projects, we remain committed to assisting clients with smaller jobs, maintaining the principle that no project is too small.
Memorial: Saying Goodbye To My 2 Bestfriends
To Helsinki (2000 – Oct. 2010)
I’ll miss your enthusiasm and youthful spirit. Hopefully everyone up there knows not to leave loaves of bread or any other food too close to the edge of the kitchen counter.
To Yosemite (1993 – Dec. 2010)
For 17 years you were always there for me, thanks for all your support. I could not have done it without you.
Goodbye, now you have each other.
